University at Albany Petition

In 2012, the SUNY Chancellor’s Task Force for a Tobacco-Free SUNY comprised of students, faculty, staff, and campus administration, concluded that SUNY should move in a direction to create a 100% tobacco-free campus environment. The SUNY Board of Trustees subsequently issued a resolution in support of a Tobacco-Free SUNY. And yet, no action to date has been taken by the UAlbany administration to adopt a 100% tobacco free campus  policy to protect the campus community.

More than 40% of college campuses in New York State are tobacco or smoke-free, including Stony Brook University and UBuffalo, and Binghamton University will be tobacco-free in August 2017. In the Capital Region, UAlbany is the only campus (out of twelve colleges) that has not adopted a tobacco-free policy.

In respect to everyone and the campus environment, I urge and support UALBANY to establish a tobacco-free campus policy.*
